The Helpdesk supports Wikimedians in implementing large scale GLAM collaborations. Since its inception, it has supported volunteers in large batch uploads of medical illustrations, affiliates in running Wiki Loves Earth and Wiki Loves Monuments based on Wikidata and GLAM partners on how to make batch uploads in the best ways. Anyone can receive support from the Helpdesk – in this session we will explain how the Helpdesk works and how it will develop ahead. We will also explain how working groups will be created to support the work of the Helpdesk, and how Wikimedians worldwide can join the work of these Working Groups.

The Open Science and Wikimedia communities share the common goal of developing high quality openly available content, yet collaborations between the movements have been limited. Following discussions at last year’s Wikimania, the speakers conducted a survey of Wikimedia affiliates to gauge their knowledge of, interest in, and activities surrounding Open Science. The results of the survey will be shared and will form the basis for discussions around coordinating and strengthening activities between the two communities.

The Heritage Guard Network brings together Wikimedians, affiliates, and partners to explore how Wikimedia platforms can support the digital preservation of cultural heritage at risk. In its first phase, the project produced a comprehensive report with insights on risks, technology, legal barriers, and engagement — drawing from work in Ukraine, Georgia, Poland, and Sweden, but relevant far beyond. This session will briefly present the key findings based on the final papers of the pilot project, and then focus on what comes next: implementing those learnings in the second phase of the project. We’ll share plans to develop practical tools and toolkits for volunteers and partners, and invite attendees to contribute ideas, feedback, and collaborations. Whether your interest lies in heritage, open knowledge, or digital preservation, this session offers a chance to engage with a growing global effort.
