The Affiliations Committee (AffCom) plays a vital role in ensuring the health and sustainability of Wikimedia movement affiliates. As part of our strategic retreat, we reflected on our responsibilities and identified three key areas for strengthening the movement’s future: capacity building, conflict resolution, and the affiliate model. To advance these priorities, AffCom has established dedicated working groups composed of members, advisors, and Board liaisons. This session will provide an update on our strategic initiatives, invite feedback from participants, and explore collaborative ways to enhance affiliate support.
The Affiliations Committee (AffCom) plays a critical role in ensuring the overall health and sustainability of Wikimedia movement affiliates, as outlined in its charter. During our recent strategic retreat, we reflected on these responsibilities and explored ways to strengthen the movement’s future.
Three key focus areas emerged from our discussions:
Capacity Building: How do we equip affiliates with the skills, resources, and support they need to thrive?
Conflict Resolution: How can we make dispute resolution smoother and more effective?
Affiliate Model: How do we ensure that affiliates grow and evolve in alignment with the movement’s needs?
To drive progress in these areas, three dedicated working groups, comprised of AffCom members, advisors, and Board liaisons, have been formed to develop and implement strategic initiatives. This panel session will provide an update on these efforts, invite feedback and discussion on our work so far, and explore how AffCom can continue to support a stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable movement that empowers free knowledge for all.
- How does your session relate to the event theme: Wikimania@20: Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability?
-
Our session ties into Wikimania@20: Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability by focusing on how we can strengthen Wikimedia affiliates to build a more resilient and collaborative movement.
Inclusivity: We’re looking at how to better support all affiliates through capacity-building efforts. By improving access to resources and ensuring equitable participation, we can help create a more inclusive movement.
Impact: Strengthening how affiliates function and resolve conflicts leads to more effective collaboration and governance. This means affiliates can focus on their mission, making a greater impact in their communities.
Sustainability: A well-supported affiliate network is key to Wikimedia’s long-term success. Through strategic initiatives, we’re working to ensure affiliates can grow, adapt, and continue contributing to the movement’s future.
This session is an opportunity to share updates on our strategic work, gather feedback, and explore how we can collectively build a stronger and more sustainable Wikimedia movement.
