Germany engages in Digital Dialogues with important partner countries. Its aim is to shape better conditions for the digital transformation of the economy and society. What can we contribute to this format and what do we want? Lets have a conversation and share ideas!
Germany has signed the Global Digital Compact (GDC), vowing with many other signtatories, to support multistakeholder approaches to their digital politics. That means: include representatives from civil society initiatives, companies and universities in conversations.
One format where we can test and contribute to these obligations are the International Digital Dialogues. Brazil, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Singapore, South Africa, Israel are the partner countries so far. (https://digital-dialogues.net/en/)
These "Dialogues" take place annually, either in the partner country or in Germany. Not only are official delegations of the countries invited, but also representatives of companies or universities. Lately, representation of local digital communities, aka Wikimedians or digital civil society organisations of the named countries shall be invited!
In this roundtable, I will first explain the setup of these dialogues, talk about some examples of what we can contribute and some examples of what we can ask as a support. Then, your contribution is very important, because I would love having a conversation about what we want from and what we can contribute to this or other formats.

- How does your session relate to the event theme: Wikimania@20: Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability?
-
The multistakeholder approach allows more inclusivity in international policy dialogues. "Inclusivity" is here coined as "representatives from different groups of stakeholders are present in dialogues", i.e. universities and civil society initiatives, technical community as there are service providers, companies and government representatives.
However, due to international obligations, there is a chance for civil society initiatives as our movement, to be heard, to be supported and to demonstrate how they contribute to a global community oriented digital universe. Lets enhance our impact by being able to present our work at those occasions. - What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?

I work in the Policy Team of Wikimedia Germany since 2022. My focus is EU and international policy, for example I represent the german civil society at the newly founded Internet Governance Forum Germany (IGF-D). My other focus is Disinformation and the positive role Wikipedia is playing in the information environment. Before Wikipedia, I spent more than a decade with stabilising a professional and democracy oriented information space that is supporting human rights, peace and democratic systems.
