2025-08-07 , MOMBASA (🗣️ ar, es, fr, sw)
Language: English

This session will explore how the Reader Web and Mobile Apps teams of the Wikimedia Foundation have been working to engage and deepen our connections with our readers and donors to help ensure our movement’s long-term sustainability.
We would like to present current work and findings, as well as sketch out a direction for the future. We would like to discuss the way we approach retaining new and existing generations of readers on our platforms, and how we leverage experimentation and new technologies to achieve our goals.
We would also like to create space to brainstorm together and discuss how communities can work with us to build for current and future Wikipedia readers.

This session will showcase how the Wikimedia Foundation’s Reader Web and Mobile Apps teams are engaging readers and donors to strengthen our movement’s long-term sustainability. In the session, we would like to:
Discuss our overall strategy for readers and readership
Allow representatives of the Web and Apps teams to present our latest work, share key findings, and demonstrate new features we’ve built or are in the process of building.
Discuss how the teams are using experimentation and emerging technologies such as AI - how this approach is different from the past, and how we plan on working with communities through these processes
The session will include strategic overviews, live demos, impact insights from recent initiatives, and time for Q&A for feedback and identifying potential community collaborations.
