The presentation explains the biggest challenges for publishing queer images, video, texts and audio on Commons. Living queer culture and history has limited presence in free publications before the 1970s and even with content creation programmes like Wiki Loves Pride, there are significant barriers to entry for how to manage complex copyright interpretation and how "educational value" is assessed by the Commons community. Included will be examples of the most impactful projects and some of the most important queer community photographs and video that are impossible to release on Commons. Related analysis of the history of Commons file deletions and discussions will provide new evidence of whether Commons is countering anti-LGBTQ systemic bias or is a victim of it.
