With 5 years experience of managing Wikimedia LGBTQIA groups on Telegram, along with sharing the same reports on X and mastodon, what have we learned for designing safer groups for vulnerable communities? The presentation covers the strategy for separating public and private groups, avoiding compromizing member data, vetting, use of standard and custom bots including rejected bot tools. It briefly compares with Signal, Discord and Matrix platforms and highlights the most significant risks for Telegram users.
