Many Wikimedia communities successfully attract participants through campaigns, edit-a-thons, and awareness events, but sustaining engagement beyond these activities remains a challenge. This is particularly important for communities working to improve LGBTQ+ representation on Wikimedia projects, where contributor retention, mentorship, and leadership development are essential for long-term impact. Drawing on lessons from [EduWiki Hub's](https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_%26_Education_User_Group/EduWiki_Hub) work in mentorship, peer learning, community support, and capacity building, this session explores how Wikimedia communities can move beyond one-time participation and create pathways that support contributors throughout their journey. Rather than focusing solely on recruitment, the presentation examines how structured learning, mentoring relationships, resource sharing, and community networks can help contributors remain engaged and grow into community leaders. Participants will explore practical approaches for designing more welcoming and sustainable contributor experiences, particularly for underrepresented communities. The session will invite discussion on how Wikimedia education models can support LGBTQ+ organizers, contributors, and user groups in building stronger communities, strengthening knowledge equity, and creating lasting participation beyond individual campaigns and events.
