The Wikimedia Foundation Contributors product teams are currently working on extending the Newcomer Homepage, with a vision for a personalised homepage for all Wikipedia users, from readers who want recommendations on what to read next, to patrollers and admins who need to know where to focus their attention. Our aim is to create an experience that grows with users, introducing new ways of contributing at times when users are ready to engage with them, with the long-term goal of improving editor retention, and growing the ranks of experienced editors and users with extended rights. This homepage will be a personalised experience, with contribution suggestions based on users’ editing history and interests. In this session, participants will be invited to co-create features (or ‘modules’) for this homepage targeting one of the wide range of workflows, processes, and ways of contributing to Wikipedia. We want to use the homepage to both introduce new users to contribution opportunities, as well as to serve as a jumping off point for more experienced users to receive personalised and timely recommendations. This project is still in the early phases, so the designs and discussions in this session will directly inform and inspire the work the Wikimedia Foundation does on this feature.
