Language extinction is not inevitable. With the right resources, you can reclaim your ancestral language, raise a new generation of native speakers, and keep your language alive. The process of saving an endangered or dormant language, often called "language revitalization", is a multi-generational, interdisciplinary process that involves linguistics, education, and cultural engagement with art and technology. In this panel, we'll convene three language revitalization leaders with experience adding their languages to Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and other Wiki platforms, to explore how mother-tongue Wikimedia contribution drives the core themes of language revitalization and strengthens language diversity for the next generation.
