GenAI tools are increasingly used by Wikimedia contributors, affiliates, and partner organizations, yet questions remain about how to use these tools responsibly, effectively, and in alignment with Wikimedia values.
This 90-minute workshop offers a practical, beginner-friendly introduction to harnessing GenAI for Wikimedia workflows. Rather than focusing on theory, the session will explore concrete use cases related to common wiki activities, such as drafting, summarizing, structuring information, supporting research, and preparing content for contribution.
The workshop emphasizes responsible use, including attention to sourcing, verification, bias, transparency, and community norms. Participants will engage in guided exercises and small-group discussion designed to build confidence and critical awareness.
No advanced technical knowledge is required. The session is intended for contributors and affiliates who are curious about AI tools but want a structured, values-aligned entry point.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have practical strategies they can adapt to their own workflows, along with a clearer understanding of both the opportunities and limitations of generative AI in Wikimedia contexts
