🥗 Lunch meetup - First Wikimedia International: let's talk about workers' unions
**This has been moved to a larger room: EST! Community members are welcome to attend!**
[Wiki Workers United](https://wikiworkersunited.org/) is a global [solidarity union](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solidarity_unionism) for the staff of the [Wikimedia Foundation](https://wikimediafoundation.org/), and the US employees of the Foundation are attempting to organize a labor union under US law. Many employees of the Foundation and affiliates outside the US already have labor unions which represent them. How can we build a dialog between these unions to advance the aims of the movement and those professionals employed to aid the movement? How can multiple nation-based unions coordinate to advocate for the needs of global workers? How does the labor union movement interact with the volunteerism which is the core of the Wikimedia movement communities?
Both union-eligible professionals with employment in the Wikimedia movement and allies (editors and otherwise) are invited. We will discuss how labor unions can help and work with our movement, and how professionals and allies can aid in the effort. Those with organizing experience who can add their expertise to our conversation are especially welcome.
Join us for a discussion of these topics! In order to provide a safe forum for discussion, this meetup will not be recorded.
