Adding and Managing Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons

With over 9 million edits as the second most active contributor on Wikimedia Commons, I will present a practical, process-oriented approach to implementing Structured Data at scale.
This workshop focuses on concrete workflows for adding structured information to files and categories, preparing category trees for Structured Data, and integrating content efficiently with Wikidata. Participants will learn which tools and gadgets to use, how to design scalable editing processes, and how to monitor progress using PetScan queries to maintain control over large workloads.
The session is built around real examples and proven methods. It demonstrates not only what to do, but how to do it consistently, efficiently, and in alignment with best practices. Special attention will be given to assessing completeness—understanding when a specific part of a category tree has been properly structured and reviewed.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have practical knowledge enabling them to manage files and categories confidently, improve metadata quality, and implement replicable workflows in their own communities. All attendees will receive documentation to ensure that the presented methods can be fully replicated and adapted locally.
