Throughout 2025, WikiPortraits photographers covered more than 180 events worldwide. The nearly 50,000 images produced by the initiative have generated over 2 billion views across Wikimedia projects. This global coverage spans significant international events (Eurovision, Nobel Prizes, Cannes Film Festival), to indigenous festivals (Riddu Riđđu, Márkomeannu, Santa Fe Indian Market), to journalism events (Knight Media Forum, National Association of Hispanic Journalists Convention), to sporting events (Olympics, World Figure Skating Championships, EuroBasket Women), and much much more. This panel brings together WikiPortraits organizers and photographers to discuss: * how WikiPortraits works in practice, on a global scale * how the network grew to 100+ photographers across 35+ countries * how Wikimedia photographers and affiliates can get involved * how Commons photography can serve as a pipeline for new Wikimedia contributors, at a time when there is great community concern about a decline in new editors joining * what comes next for WikiPortraits in the coming year
