Generative AI is reshaping how knowledge is produced, discovered, and trusted. Movement conversations have often focused on impact and risks. This session focuses on agency: how can Wikimedia play an active role in shaping the emerging AI-driven knowledge loop, while safeguarding the integrity of human knowledge production? We will start by sharing key takeaways from Wikimedia CH and Open Future’s work on Collective Intelligence vs Artificial Intelligence, which maps the “new knowledge loop” and the tensions it creates for the knowledge commons. Building on Wikimedia Movement’s practices, we use collective intelligence as a guiding concept: communities producing reliable knowledge through open collaboration and decentralised decision-making. From there, we will shift into a facilitated conversation on elements of a collaborative AI roadmap that is Movement-aligned. What kind of tooling, design choices and governance interfaces can strengthen collective intelligence in Wikimedia projects? Where should the Movement focus first to remain resilient, multilingual, and trustworthy in an AI-mediated ecosystem? And how can we support experiments and development work across the movement. We want to use this opportunity to form an alliance of volunteers, chapters, and partner organizations to carry this roadmap forward. We hope that the alliance will bring together people from different regions, with varied perspectives on Wikimedia and AI, who are interested in working together. We will collect proposals from this session and include them in a roadmap that is being developed by Wikimedia CH.
