The Wikimedia Affiliations Committee (AffCom) plays a central role in supporting a healthy and sustainable ecosystem of Wikimedia affiliates. Following the pause in affiliate recognition, which began in August 2025 and was extended until September 2026, communities across the movement are seeking greater clarity about recognition requirements, governance expectations, and what constitutes a healthy and sustainable affiliate.
This interactive session will provide an overview of the renewed affiliate recognition framework while also exploring the broader principles of affiliate health, governance, and sustainability. Participants will learn about key outcomes of the recognition review process, updated criteria and expectations, and practical approaches on strengthening internal structures, improving organizational readiness, and fostering accountability, inclusivity, and resilience.
The session will combine presentations, discussion, peer learning, and practical self-assessment exercises. Participants will have the opportunity to receive practical guidance and opportunities for dialogue with AffCom members and peers from across the movement.
