With both Wikipedia and Creative Commons turning 25, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to jointly celebrate this milestone at Wikimania 2026 in Paris. The Commons Salon is an intimate, participatory gathering marking 25 years of Creative Commons as a lived, human practice. In small, facilitated circles, Wikimedians, creators, educators, and stewards of shared knowledge will share stories of joy, tension, care, and contradiction, celebrating what openness has made possible. This is a collective moment to reconnect Creative Commons to our relationships, our responsibilities, and our hopes for the next generation. We would like to propose a full day gathering where participants rotate through curated “salons”. Each salon will be designed to explore different dimensions of CC as lived experience and will produce a shared artifact.
