Sustainable Networks, Reliable Knowledge: Feminist Organizing Across Regions
Wikipedia’s openness depends on people who are willing and able to participate. That participation does not happen automatically. It is shaped by access, language, trust, mentorship, and the conditions that allow contributors to stay engaged over time.
In this session, Art+Feminism Network Ambassadors working across Asia, Anglophone Africa, and Francophone Africa will share how feminist organizing supports Wikimedia communities in practice. Panelists will discuss experiences such as supporting new contributors, addressing content gaps through community-led programs, navigating regional and linguistic barriers, and responding to challenges like burnout and uneven participation.
The panel will also explore how this organizing work directly affects the reliability of Wikimedia content. Sustainable communities support stronger sourcing practices, shared accountability, and long-term knowledge stewardship. Rather than presenting a single model, the session invites comparison across regions and collective learning with the audience. Participants will have space to share their own community-building challenges, strategies, and questions.
