How we communicate with each other influences our relationships, the quality of our interactions, and thus also the quality of our collaboration. In a community as complex and diverse as the Wikimedia movement, clear, respectful communication can be a transformative factor: for high-quality collaboration, but also for a community in which people enjoy being active on a long-term basis. Active listening takes a very concrete and practical approach to this issue. It sharpens our attention and trains our inner observer: What is the other person saying, and how are they saying it? Have I understood everything correctly, or do I want to ask for clarification? And then: How does what has been said affect me, how does it make me feel, how do I want to respond? Active listening means first really being present with the other person before we respond. Not in the heat of the moment, but in genuine understanding. This sounds simple, but it requires putting aside our own judgments and thoughts, remaining curious, and taking responsibility for our own reactions. Those who practice this develop the ability to understand the perspectives and emotions behind words, thereby actively contributing to building trust and reducing misunderstandings. The workshop is open to everyone, with or without prior knowledge. It takes place in a safe space: what you share stays in the room. <br>
