Social integration of the new generations: How do we turn casual editors into community leaders?
Many of our efforts revolve around attracting new editors or supporting long-time contributors. But are we doing the right things to a sufficient degree to support the journey from one end to the other? — Which onwiki and offwiki formats for casual editors are successful? How do we show appreciation for the engagement for the various roles in our movement? And how do we integrate new or young generations into established community groups the best?
In this workshop, community members will exchange their best practices for the social integration of new generations of users who have registered and casually edit but could turn into active community members or even leaders with the right support. After a brief introduction including the presentation of international examples, the participants will be invited to share their experiences either in a fishbowl format or in thematic groups about successful local formats and how they can be adapted to other contexts, about the roles within the local communities and movement activities and how the entry points can be easified, and about the ways of appreciation for any kind of participation in our movement and how we can make this more visible with a clear focus on new generations.
The participants of the workshop will leave the session with a bunch of new ideas on how to help their local communities try out new formats, clarify roles and value all kinds of participation in order to foster and thrive in a vivid and growing Wikimedia movement.
