Abstract

We host many hackathons as part of our technical user group sessions. In these hackathons, we have mentors and mentees all the time working on the projects. Its always a trick to map the right mentor to mentees along with right project. There should be a proper overlap of skills between these three entities for the hackathon results to be succesful. This workshop is going to be brainstorming about creating a potential global mentor mentee network for example using platforms like CapEx

Additional information

How does your session relate to the event theme: Liberté, Équité, Fiabilité (Freedom, Equity, Reliability).
By exploring the creation of a global mentor–mentee network for hackathons and technical initiatives, the session aims to expand freedom of participation beyond local networks and reduce informal barriers to entry. The workshop particularly contributes to equity by examining how mentorship opportunities can be more fairly distributed across regions, languages, and experience levels, enabling emerging communities to access technical guidance that may not be locally available. Finally, improved mentor–mentee–project alignment strengthens reliability by increasing project continuity, reducing duplication of effort, and supporting sustainable technical growth. Through collaborative brainstorming, the session will explore scalable mechanisms for building a movement-wide mentorship infrastructure.
Which Wikimedia audiences will find this content the most useful?
