Women in Wikipedia: Armenia-Côte d’Ivoire
Speakers
Armine Aghayan-Flisch - HR specialist and educator with a background in community work and cultural projects. I am also an amateur photographer and a long-time Wikipedian, interested in knowledge sharing, education, and cross-cultural collaboration.
Abstract
I will present the intercommunity collaboration between Armenia and Côte d’Ivoire within the framework of the Women in Wikipedia campaign. The presentation will highlight how the idea of working together emerged, how editors from both communities were engaged, and what outcomes we initially envisioned. I will also share the concrete results we achieved through this collaboration and reflect on the lessons learned along the way.
Finally, I will invite other Wikimedia communities to join this annual collaborative campaign, which aims to reduce the gender gap on Wikipedia by strengthening cross-community partnerships and amplifying women’s representation and contributions.
Additional information
This lightning talk reflects the event theme Liberté, égalité, fiabilité — freedom, equality, reliability by showcasing how cross-community collaboration can strengthen Wikipedia as a free, inclusive, and trustworthy source of knowledge. The collaboration between the Armenian and Ivorian communities demonstrates how free knowledge transcends borders, languages, and cultures. By working together, editors exercised the freedom to share, translate, and expand content that might otherwise remain underrepresented. At the heart of this initiative is the Women in Wikipedia campaign, which directly addresses gender imbalance on the platform. By engaging editors from different communities, the collaboration promotes equal representation and amplifies women’s voices across languages and regions. Intercommunity collaboration strengthens the quality and reliability of Wikipedia content. Through shared standards, peer review, and collective responsibility, the project ensured well-sourced, accurate, and sustainable articles.
